Dear Parents and Carers,
The theme of this week has been integrity and being honest.
Mobile Phone free school
I would like to thank all parents and carers for their support with our new policy on mobile phones. From the time students enter the building until they leave, they are no longer permitted to use their mobile phones. This is having a positive impact across the school, especially at break and lunchtime. We now have more students reading, playing games and actually talking to each other. It is vital that all students have a school bag with them so that, if they wish to bring a phone to school, it is switched off and kept in their bag. A bag is also important for the equipment they need for school and is a priority for all students. This is a key part of our RISE work to ensure all students are ready to learn, present and resourceful.
Our journey towards becoming an anti-racist school
We hope to welcome as many parents and carers of our Black and Asian students to attend our Global Majority Parent Voice coffee morning at 10am on Thursday 4th July at school.
Transition
We look forward to welcoming our new Year 6 parents and carers at our Transition evening on Thursday 4th July at 5pm. This is open to all the families of our new cohort of students who have places to start at Newport High School in Year 7 in September 2024. More information about transition can be found on our school website, via the main menu, on our Rise Up Transition section. This includes copies of our transition newsletter, our transition road map, copies of all transition letters and useful videos and guides about moving to high school. I would also encourage all families who have places at Newport High School to watch the videos made by our Rise Up Reps. Our Rise Up Reps are students in current Year 7 who have been part of our transition planning and have recorded messages to our new Year 6 pupils about their expereinces of moving up to high school. I hope you find this section of our website useful. I am extremely grateful to Ms Milton and all our Cluster Primary collegauies for helping to ensure that the transiiton programme at Newport High School is so strong.
