Friday 8th December 2023
Dear Parents and Carers,
RISE
Our weekly RISE focus this week has been on integrity and being considerate.
Literacy
We are continuing to prioritise the development of reading across the school. As you know all students in Year 7 now have a reading book with them every day and we held a “no pens” day last week for students to develop their oracy and reading in lessons.
Our Connect Area of Learning has subscribed to theday.co.uk where all students can access a range of different articles on a daily basis. Please encourage your child to have a look and read some of the articles.
The link is available on our school website under Connect / English and I have included an example of what was on the website last week – it’s a great resource!
Warm Wales, energy saving tips
As the weather gets colder and the cost of energy becomes even more of a challenge for all of us, I am including some energy saving tips from Newport Homes and the Warm Wales campaign.
Year 13 leavers’ (August 2023) annual ‘coffee and catch-up’ event Wednesday 20th December 3.15 – 4.15pm
We would like to invite back all students who have recently finished year 13 in August 2023 to our annual ‘coffee and catch-up’ event. This is an opportunity to update us on how you are getting on since leaving Newport High and also sign for and collect your A level and GCSE certificates. Please contact Mrs James lj@newporthigh.co.uk if you need any more information.
Just a reminder that we break up for the Christmas holidays on Thursday 21st December at 3pm and return to school for the start of the Spring Term on Monday 8th January 2024. Friday 22nd December is a disaggregated INSET day and the school will be closed to staff and students on this day. We used this time to run two twilight sessions with our Cluster primary schools to support our work around progression and the new curriculum.
The remaining INSETS for the rest of this academic year are as follows;
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for your continued support.
With kind regards
Mrs Lee
