Dear Parents and Carers,

RISE

Our weekly RISE focus this week has been on commitment and being purposeful.

It was lovely to see so many parents and carers at our Sixth Form Open Evening yesterday. If you were unable to attend and your child is interesetd in the Sixth Form, or you have any questions, please contact Mrs L. James lj@newporthigh.co.uk.

Year 13 parents evening Thursday 7th December 3.30pm – 6.30pm

Just a reminder that our Year 13 Parents Evening takes place next week and we look forward to discussing your child’s progress at this important event.

Year 13 leavers’ (August 2023) annual ‘coffee and catch-up’ event Wednesday 20th December 3.15 – 4.15pm

We would like to invite back all students who have recently finished year 13 in August 2023 to our annual ‘coffee and catch-up’ event. This is an opportunity to update us on how you are getting on since leaving Newport High and also sign for and collect your A level and GCSE certificates. Please contact Mrs James lj@newporthigh.co.uk if you need any more information.

Parent and carer views

Thank you so much to all the parents and carers who have taken the time to complete our questionnaire about school uniform. We have had more responses to this than to any previous questionnaire and I am so pleased that so many parents and carers are engaging to shape the decision-making process.  We are also in the process of doing questionnaires with students, staff and governors and all this information will be reviewed by the student and staff working party to help decide next steps.  Over this term and next, we are undertaking three significant pieces of work relating to school uniform, behaviour for learning and well-being. There will be questionnaires coming out to all parents and carers to support this and I would be extremely grateful if we could have as many responses as possible.

Just a reminder that we break up for the Christmas holidays on Thursday 21st December at 3pm and return to school for the start of the Spring Term on Monday, the 8th January 2024. Friday, the 22nd December is a disaggregated INSET day and the school will be closed to staff and students on this day. We will use this time to run two twilight sessions with our Cluster primary schools to support our work around progression and the new curriculum.

The remaining INSET days for the rest of this academic year are as follows;

  1. Friday 22nd December 2023
  2. Friday 8th March 2024
  3. Friday 28th June 2024
  4. Monday 1st July 2024

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for your continued support.

With kind regards

Mrs Lee
