Dear Parent/Carer

RE: YEAR 9 CAREERS SESSION – WEDNESDAY 24 JANUARY 2024

In early February Year 9 students will be making choices about the subjects they will study during the next two academic years. More details of this process will follow closer to the date.

This is an extremely important decision in their school lives and can influence future career choices, day-to-day wellbeing and examination success.

One of the key things to consider when deciding on options choices is what students might want to do as a career when they leave school and therefore what subjects they need to study in order to pursue this career?

Therefore, to support students with some career ideas and prepare them for their options process, we will be holding a Careers Talk on Wednesday 24th January Lesson 5 in the Main Hall.

During this lesson, students will be asked to use their mobile phone to scan QR codes linked to different career information and they will be researching different courses. They will also be given a booklet for all the options courses available to them with information about each course. Therefore, I would appreciate it if you could support your child to access this lesson fully by:

1. Checking that they have their mobile phone with them on that day.
2. Checking that their mobile phone is full charged.
3. Reminding them that they should only use their mobile phone during the lesson when directed to do so by their teacher.
4. Reminding them that they should only use their mobile phones for the activity specified during the lesson.

If your child does not have access to a mobile phone that can be used for this activity, a small number of laptops will be provided to allow them to take part.

Students have also been informed that next week they will have option assemblies each morning during form time, where presentations for all the different courses will be given. It is therefore vital that the students attend form time and are punctual. I ask for your help in ensuring they are in school and on time.

I would really appreciate it if you could discuss the importance of these event with your child and encourage them to engage fully with all aspects in order to support their transition into their GCSE courses.

Yours faithfully
