Marking, Feedback Assessment and Dirt

Students will regularly receive diagnostic feedback from their teachers in lessons and in their books. You will see this as ‘What Went Well’ and ‘To Improve’ comments. These comments will ensure students know what they have done well, how they could improve, and the actions needed to bring about these improvements. This is an essential element of learning, needed by students, to ensure they can continue to make progress in different subject areas.

To support students in making progress, it is expected that they complete Dedicated Improvement and Reflection Time (DIRT) tasks, set by their teachers in every subject, at various times over the year. These tasks enable a student to ‘close the gap’ in their knowledge, understanding and application of skills and show improvements. This will ensure they can continue to make progress and improve their learning. Teachers will provide these opportunities and it is a student's responsibility to ensure these are engaged with and completed to the best of their ability.

Students will be formatively assessed during lessons through activities such as questioning and peer/self-assessment. This will support the teacher in evaluating the progress students are making and the direction in which the lesson should continue.

Students will also complete summative assessments, periodically throughout the year. As a school, we will endeavour to ensure that these assessments are suitably challenging, whilst also providing students with the support needed to achieve their highest potential.
