Headteacher update – Friday 3rd July 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

We are delighted to announce that, at our Governing Body AGM last week, Reverend Becca Stevens was voted in as our new Chair of Governors. As a key member of the local community she will add real value to our excellent governing board. Becca replaces Lucy Jackson who has worked as Chair since 2018. On behalf of all the school community I would like to thank Lucy for her hard work and commitment. Whilst Lucy will no longer be our Chair she is staying on as a governor so we will continue to benefit from her knowledge and expertise.

I would like to say how lovely it has been to finally meet some students this week. Those attending the sessions have behaved extremely well showing respect for the new social distancing measures and consideration for others. Next week we are asking all students to bring their own device to school so we can work on distance learning ready for the Autumn term.

Any parents who would like their child to attend school in the last week of term will have the chance to book them in next week. Any parents whose child has attended already, or is booked in for next week, do not need to reapply for a place.  Your child’s Head of Year will be in contact with details.

I am sure everyone is extremely familiar with the guidance but I would reiterate that under no circumstances should your child be sent into school if they are feeling unwell or if they have any of the three identified symptoms including a new continuous cough, a high temperature or loss of taste and smell, or if they have tested positively for COVID 19 within the last 14 days. Likewise, if anyone in your household has tested positively or is displaying symptoms, your child should not attend.

Please can students bring water with them and remember to follow the three-step hand hygiene rule:

  • Sanitise
  • Wash
  • Sanitise

There is no requirement for school uniform for the next three weeks but please ensure that your child wears clothes that can be easily washed at 60 degrees in line with the guidance.

The Governing Body have made the decision that students will be required to wear school uniform at the start of the next academic year. We are still waiting for further information from Welsh Government regarding our reopening in September. As soon as we have more details we will send this out and update the website.

If there are any key workers with children in Year 7 who need childcare, we have been running our own childcare hub from Monday 22nd June. Newport City Council will also be offering childcare for the children of Key workers over the school summer holiday. The online application to access this provision remains on the NCC website.

We are continuing with our three weekly distance learning cycle. Next week is week two of the cycle and all students will continue to be supported through distance learning.

Just a final reminder that we break up for the summer on Friday 17th July.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind Regards

Gill Lee (Mrs)
