Whole School Letter – 14-12-2017

Dear Parents and Carers
It Is hard to believe that the end of the Autumn Term is fast approaching – the weeks since the summer holiday have literally flown by. As usual, it has been a very busy term with many successes including Year 13 students completing mock interviews with local businesses; Show Racism the Red Card workshops, our peer ambassadors presenting at the Senedd and Mental Health Ambassadors presenting at the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Wales conference; Awards Evening and parents’ evenings for Year 7, 8, 12 and 13 students to name but a few. Our Estyn Inspection also took place following half term with the report due to be published on 25 January 2018.
School closes for the Christmas holiday at 3.00pm on Friday 22 December. Please note that lessons will continue until 22 December and that students should come fully equipped for learning right up to the end of term.  As usual, we will end the last day of term with the Inter-House Quiz.

Winter Weather
As winter is upon us, can I also take this opportunity to remind you of our procedure for communicating information about snow closure.  If we are forced to close the school we will ensure details are posted on our school website, Twitter, the Newport City Council website and the school answer-phone before 8.00 am in the morning.

Routes to school
We are experiencing an increasing number of issues with cars parking outside of the school, particularly at the start and end of the school day. Can I remind you that the loop to the front of the school is part of the main highway and should only be used as a drop off and pick up point. It is not an area for parking for longer periods of time whilst attending meetings in school or when waiting for passengers. It is essential that any car using the loop is not parked in a position that prevents buses from entry. We have experienced students alighting from a bus on Bettws Lane itself as a result of the loop being blocked by cars. This is a significant health and safety risk for our students and the community and is of real concern. Please park in the designated visitor parking spaces which are located to the rear of the school on the Foxglove Meadows perimeter if you are visiting the school or are waiting to pick up students at the end of the day.

You will also be aware that the route through Heol Senni and Clos Carno in Foxglove Meadows is a private, resident access-only area. This area should not be used by students who are walking to school or as a drop off and pick up point for parents. Please can I ask for your support in ensuring your son / daughter makes their journey to school along Bettws Lane unless they are a resident of this area.
