The following days are Inset days and therefore school will be closed to students for staff training.

  • Friday 28th January
  • Friday 4th March
  • Friday 1st July

The Westminster government have announced an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3rd June 2022 to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. As this falls within a half-term, we have been asked to take an alternative date. The date we are taking will be Friday 17th December 2021. This means school will be closed on this date to staff and students and we will break up for Christmas on Thursday 16th December 2021.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to use our water fountains at the moment, therefore, in addition to a school bag, a mask and basic equipment such as a pen, all students should be bringing a water bottle into school with them.

We will continue to ask you to collect any students who arrive at school in the incorrect uniform to take them home to change.

Our uniform policy is as follows:

On days that our students have PE they can continue to attend in their Newport High School PE kit. Please note, as this is part of our uniform, they must wear the school kit only.

A formal consultation has been launched by Newport City Council on a proposal to increase the capacity of Ysgol Bryn Derw by 28 pupil places with effect from April 2022.

The consultation period will commence on 21 June 2021 and end at midnight on 1 August 2021. The consultation pack is published on the Council’s webpages at http://www.newport.gov.uk/en/Schools-Education/School-reorganisation

Hard copies of the consultation document are available on request by emailing school.reorg@newport.gov.uk or by telephoning 01633 656656.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board are running a walk-in vaccination clinic at Newport Leisure Centre on Saturday 3rd July from 0830am until 4pm. If you are yet to receive your COVID-19 vaccination and would like to attend please come along. No appointment required, they only ask that you please bring ID. Please note they will only be offering first doses. Getting the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and loved ones from COVID-19.

We continue to work hard to reduce the transmission of covi-19 within our school.

  1. Students must not mix outside their contact groups.
  2. All students (except those who are medically exempt) will need to wear a mask at all times whilst on site.
  3. All students need to wash or sanitise their hands frequently. This includes on entering and leaving the school building, on entering and leaving a classroom, before and after break and lunch and before and after going to the toilet.

Please continue to use the Newport High School out of hours COVID-19 line to report if your child has had a positive test. Please only leave a message on this service if your child has had a positive test result.

The number for this is: 01633 820 101.

As this is a dedicated service for confirmation of positive COVID-19 test results, please do not use this service to report any other information as these messages will not be checked or responded to.

Kind regards

Mrs Lee
