Our House System

In July 2008 a new House System was introduced, students voted in their TfL groups to decide the names of the four Houses. The chosen names are all characters form the Welsh legend ‘ The Mabinogion’- Branwen, Taliesin, Olwen and Pryderi. In September 2008 design by students in each house were chosen for their House logo.

All students and staff have been placed in a House and join in with students to celebrate and compete in House events such as Eisteddfod, Sport Day and Challenge Cup  Inter House Quiz. This positive introduction to the new House system enabled students to feel very settled in their new House TfL groups. Students in Key Stage 4 are in smaller forms with a maximum of 18 students and are supported by a TfL and Co-Tutor with 6 forms in each House. All Houses have a Head of House- Branwen – Mrs Williams, Pryderi- Mr Hoskins, Taliesin- Mr McCormick and Olwen- Mr Boschen.

The House system is supported by a student council comprising of a yr 12 House Captain and two reps who attend whole school meetings on behalf of the rest of the House, as well as every year group having two reps who create the House Council. The House Council meet every term to discuss key issues. Year 12 students have also been appointed as prefects and are attached to each House, meeting regularly with students and the Head of House and take responsibility for the House Meetings and maintaining the House ‘Blog’. Hose assemblies are held once a week where the ‘House Ethos’ is promoted.
