Ensuring Success Through a Personalised Curriculum
The School offers a flexible curriculum that caters for each child’s learning needs, allowing them to access a range of qualifications appropriate to their abilities and aspirations. This is a curriculum where learning how to learn is just as important as acquiring knowledge.
Our 2-year curriculum at Key Stage 3 focuses on three areas:
 * developing high standards in literacy
 * developing high standards in numeracy
 * developing good habits of learning
The KS3 curriculum has been designed with the aim of ensuring students feel safe, happy and successful from the start of their secondary education. Students work with their Tutor for over half of their timetable on projects which focus on these three aspects of their learning. Projects will use different aspects of subject areas to provide a context for students’ learning. To complement this thematic curriculum, students access specialist teaching in Maths, Science, PE, Design & Technology and Music.
Students begin their Key Stage 4 curriculum at the start of Year 9. This enables us to demonstrate to students and parents our belief in their ability to succeed. All KS4 students now follow the core over 2 years (years 9 and 10), with lessons timetabled on 3 discrete days per week. Double lessons are frequently timetabled. Each year, students are given the choice of 2 GCSE courses taught over 5 lessons per week each, with an exam at the end of that year or 1 vocational course taught over 10 lessons per week, completed in one year. Providing students with double time to complete their chosen programme over 1 year has increased motivation, allowed for improved monitoring of progress, and enabled students to focus on less subjects for more concentrated periods of time.
To expand students’ knowledge and interests beyond their usual curriculum subjects we offer a range of extracurricular activities and clubs including – sports, Eco-Club, ICT and catch-up sessions.
