Admissions
Information about the admissions process:
Standard number of students admitted each year: 191
Children transfer from primary to secondary school at the start of the school year of their twelfth birthday. Â Every Year 6 pupil will receive, via their primary school, an admissions form from the Education Authority.
All children living within the school’s catchment area are entitled to attend that school if parents put it as their preferred choice on the form.
Parents may wish to transfer their child from his/her existing school to Newport High School during the academic year. Parents must complete the transfer request form obtained from the Pupil Support Section of the LEA.
The Authority will try to comply with parents’ preferences. However, if the standard number of the relevant year group is reached, the transfer request would be refused and parents would be advised of their right to appeal against the Authority’s decision. The basis of the Admissions Policy in Newport is the school’s catchment area.
