Whole School Letter – 20-05-2022

Friday 20th May 2022

Dear Parent/Carer

Our Key Stage 4 & 5 examinations are now underway and I am so impressed by how well our students have been approaching these. I would like to remind all Parents and Carers that there is no study leave for students in Year 11 and lessons are continuing for all students during the examination period. As a result of the disruption to education caused by COVID-19 over the past two years it is very important that all students continue to attend school during this crucial time. Attending school every day will significantly assist students in maintaining routine and structure which can help alleviate stress during this challenging period. It will also allow them to access support from their teachers and other support networks. In order to further support students with their revision, if your child has a timetabled lesson for a subject they have now finished they will be able to revise in this lesson for another examination.

Football success

I am delighted to inform you that our Year 10 Football team have just won the Newport Cup. Mr Hodge, their coach, has summarised their journey to victory as follows;

The journey to winning the Newport Cup final started with a 5-2 Win at home to Llanwern in the first round. Gwentiscoed were the next opponents away from home and the boys ran out 4-1 winners. The boys then faced St Julians at home in the Semi-finals. This was a close encounter and was played on a very wet and boggy pitch. The boys ran out 5-3 winners to progress onto the final.

The boys were unbelievable in the final against a tough Monmouth team whom we had narrowly beaten 2-1 in the Welsh Cup earlier on in the year. The boys gave it their all and produced a superb display that saw them hit the wood work 5 times as well as scoring 2 fantastic goals through Dan and Noah with the game ending 2-0 and the Boys lifting the Newport Cup.

Parental and carer forum

The next parental drop in takes place in school on Friday 27th May at 10am. If you would like to join us for this please email to book a place.

All students should be coming to school with a school bag and their essential equipment (which must include a pen) for the day. Please be reminded that items that are potentially harmful to any member of our school community should not be brought to school. For example, aerosol cans including deodorants, cigarettes (e-cigarettes), matches and lighters, any sharp or blade like objects, glass bottles, chewing gum and fizzy drinks, including energy drinks. This rule includes all items which are illegal to possess or carry, or are inappropriate for the age of your child.

A reminder to all Parents that the Governing Body have adopted the new all Wales Smoke Free policy which stipulates that anyone using any type of cigarette on the school site (both inside and outside the school) including e-cigarettes and vapes can be subject to £100 fine.

If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Head of Year.

Break & lunch

We are hoping to revert to one break and lunchtime shortly after half-term. This will allow us to restart some of our extra-curricular clubs again which we have not been able to do since pre-Covid.

Community activities at the North Hub

The Hub are running weekly Wednesday walks which are free to join. They are also hosting a range of activities over May half-term. Further details can be found on their website or by contacting Matt Rees on 07967692940

Term dates

Just a reminder that we break up for May half-term on Friday 27th May and return to school on Monday 6th June. We break up for the summer holidays on Friday 22nd July 2022.

It is still important that any student who is unwell with Covid-19 symptoms does not attend school.

With many thanks for your continued support.

Kind regards

Mrs Lee
